Applekit

Applekit watched the exit of the nursery carefully.  Her other two siblings were busy playing, but Applekit knew what she wanted.  She was going to get out.  Seeing no one pass by the entrance for a while the kitten quickly began her wobbly sprint towards the entrance.  Keeping her balance on her short legs was difficult her entire butt wriggling as she made her precarious attempt.  She could see light streaking through green past it.  What was it out there?  She wanted to find out, and maybe see if the green things were any good to chew on.

Firefeather padded into the nursery to check on her kittens. She noticed Applekit admiring the light glistening from the outside world close to the nursery entrance  . Firefeather licked the top of her head and purred softly ," Soon, little one, you can go outside and play. You're still too little dear. Maybe in another week or so I will take you out for the first time,"

Firefeather picked up her daughter and brought her back down to the nest where her other kittens where playing. She gently placed Applekit down and proceeded to lay down to watch her kittens play.

Something large came up blocking the light.  Looking up Applekit recognized her mommy tail swaying behind her happily.  "Mew!"  She closed her eyes as her mommy licked her head.  She loved it when she was here with her mommy.  The other kittens might be fun but they weren't her mommy who gave her milk and cuddled her.  Soon?  She looked up at the queen eagerly hoping that soon was now.  She was ready.

Instead her mommy picked her up.  Applekit mewed in protest.  She had been so close!  She didn't want to go back to where the others were.  Hanging from her mouth Applekit kicked softly before she was deposited over with the other kittens.  Pouting she was caught off guard when her sister tackled her a heap of kittens quickly forming.

Firefeather Purred in amusement ,"Oh come now, Its time to eat. There is plenty of time to play later my little loveys." She flicked her tail happily, Firefeather was so happy to be a mommy for the first time, every little achiement her kittens made her feel so happy and proud. She could tell it was going to be hard once her kittens got older. She enjoys the little balls of fur too much as it is.

Briarkit cuffed Lillykit lightly leaving Applekit to wriggle her way out of the fire and paw at his tail with her paws trying to catch it as it moved around.  She was sure she could catch it if it just stopped moving for a second.

Lillykit was the first one to pull up from play at the mention of milk her ears perking up.  Applekit was slower on the uptake more focused on her prize than on what her mommy had said.  It was only when Briarkit padded over to where their mommy was that Applekit's attention moved away from the teasing toy to her mommy.  She waddled over to her mommy's side as quickly as she could pushing up against the warmth of her mommy's belly.

From either side her siblings pushed on her.  Applekit struggled getting past them huffing in frustration when she was pushed back.  The kittens were too intent on feeding to realize that Applekit had been knocked back.  The tiny kitten looked despairingly at the belly as her two husbands found teats to grab onto happily suckling away.  An idea formed in Applekit's head.  Precariously she pushed onto the back of her sister.  Lillykit shifted slightly in complaint but otherwise stayed still as Applekit reached over and seized a teat right above her sister's head drinking the milk hungrily.

Firefeather purred as her kittens fed. It was good to just spend time with her babies instead of take care of the whole clan. Being a leader is difficult work, but so is being a mommy. Firefeather grew sad, she begain to think about the kittens father. He would have loved to be here with them...watching them play together as kittens, to becoming warriors. The kittens reminded her of him. Briarkit has the same colorfur,Lillykit looks as if she will have his eyes, and Applekit had his personality. He was always curious but so wise. She licked the each kitten and meowed softly ," Have I ever told you about your daddy? You would have loved him... He was leader of our clan you know.He was kind and brave, he was never unfair. He loved mommy very much... and mommy loved him too." Firefeather had to stop her self before she got too upset.

Applekit wriggled under the lick pushing closer into her mommy's warm body.  Her belly was quickly filling with the warm milk.  Releasing her grasp she nuzzled into her mommy taking a moment to actually rest instead of running around.  It was warm where she was pressed against her mommy with her siblings around her, even if they were apt to squishing her until she moved.  Her ears twitched as her mommy spoke the words filling the air in the tiny den.

She listened closely as Mommy explained about something.  She didn't yet grasp the world outside of her small family.  She had a vague idea of other cats from when food was brought to her mommy, but that was the extent of it.  "Wuv?"  She pressed her head against the soft coat of fur.

Firefeather licked Applekits and and purred ," Yes dear, love. Like Mommy Loves her babies." Firefeather Looked around the small den. She hated how small it was compared to any of the other dens. She wanted to move her kits to Jetstars den. At lease it was bigger, and almost safer in a scence. She would have to talk to the meddie about that though.

Applekit mewed happily under her mommy's affection.  She loved being cuddled.  Rolling she was caught by surprise when one of her siblings managed to get her tail in their mouth.  It wasn't on purpose judging by the way that her sibling kept pushing at her tail as if trying to remove the tail but it still left Applekit mewing in protest trying to climb away pushing against her mommy.
