It was a chilly Greenleaf morning. Most of Shadowclan had left to go fight in the great battle except including a few queens. Except for Firefeather, she was so close to birth her mate Jetstar allowed her to stay and watch over the other soon to be mothers and the kits of the queens that had went to battle the night before. Things where about to get very interesting for ShadowClan
Firefeather, who lay curled up in her nest, was sleeping lightly, when she felt a kick, stronger than any other she'd felt from her kits, in her belly, and she woke up as the first pain of labor hit her.
Fear poured into Firefeathers's heart, and Silentkit obviously sensed it, for she looked over at his mothersfriend from her nest in the nursery, "Go get Hailsky if they have returned." She mewed to Silentkit, trying not to show her pain and fear. Firefeather was looking after him while his mother was away at the great battle.

Silentkit Nodded at Firefeather and quickly padded his way out of the Den. When he reached the clearing in the middle of the camp he opened his mouth to taste the air. He was searching for the sweet scent of his adoptive mother, but to his dismay the scent he picked up was stale. He looked around the Camp to see if anyone was around, but there was no one. Not a cat in site. "That's odd... Something must have happened otherwise the Clan would be back by now..." He meowed to himself.
Silentkit scampered off to Hailskies den to see if maybe he had returned for supplies with this apprentice. He looked into the small Opening in the brambles and meowed ,"Hailsky? Hailsky, If your in there Firefeather is in pain...I think." There was no response.
Silentkit raced around the camp seeing who was around that could help, but the camp was silent. He gave up and made his way back to the Nursery.
"Firefeather? I Couldn't find Hailsky... The clan is still gone." Me meowed as he made his way down into the Nursery.

Firefeather Looked up as the Kitten padded down towards her. ," It's okay Silentkit, I don't think I will be needing Hailsky any more. "
She looked over towards her belly and revealed three newborn kittens. She was a proud new mother and also the barrier of the leaders Kits.
"This one is Briarkit" She nudged the small brown tabby. "This one is Ryekit" She nudged the Golden Pelted kitten "and this one is Applekit" She nudged the white and orange kit.
Adderfang dashed into the clan camp and flopped onto his uninjured side, inhaling painfully. His normally sleek fur was rubbed the wrong way and missing in places. The white patches were covered in blood and he was missing an ear and his tail.
His voice was deep and gravely with pain as he spoke. "F-Firefeather..! fi-fire -huff- feather.." He looked around and groaned with the effort that moving his head required. "The clan....last survivor....so much...blood.." the tom whispered, eye-lids flittering with the effort of staying awake. Adderfang could smell kits and smiled as a trickle of blood came from his muzzle "Kits...our clan -huff- it's not dead...my poor clan..."
His side heaved and lay still for a second before shallow breathing barely moved his pelt. Adderfang really was half dead and he was hardly able to breath. The black and white tom was still barely awake, his amber eyes watering with sadness and fear.

Firefeather
FireFeather looked up from her new litter, she thought she could smell blood. She slowly Got up from her nest and shot a look at Slientkit ," Stay here and watch the newborns. Something is here and its bleeding. I can taste it." She didn't wait for a response from the young kit, and left the nursery.
FireFeather was Blinded from the sunlight of the new day, as she walked out of the den. The stench of blood became more apparent. When her eyes finally came into focus, she seen Adderfang. He was injured from battle and the source of the blood stench. ,"AdderFang!" She cried out as she tried to make her way over to him. ,"Adderfang!? I'm Comming!"
When she finally made her way over to Him, Firefeather noticed he was half dead. She licked his face to make his stay conscious. ."Adderfang, Its me. Firefeather. Stay with me Adderfang, I need you." She meowed frantically and she started to realize she, among a few others, was the only cat capable of helping him.
The sound of Firefeather's voice made Adderfang pull his front half up off of the ground. "Firef-feather..." The tom panted, leaning on her and loosing strength yet again. He knew that he carried the stink of more than his own blood. "H-how many stayed b-behind?" It was a desperate question. Adderfang hated himself at the moment for his weakness. He should have stayed and faught, but the clan needed to know what happened.
"S-so much blood...J-jetstar, t-the clan.." The black and white tom gave a pitiful meow and lay there breathing shallowly. "Great battle...no winner...so many dead..." Adderfang's friends and family were gone, Firefeather's mate was gone, the clan didn't have a leader. Adderfang's rage at himself was what kept him awake enough to speak. "I-I am the last o-of the clan....we are t-the last..."
He paused to breath and turned his honey-golden eyes up to Firefeather. "I smell kits..."

Firefeather
Firefeather looked into his Honey Golden eyes and purred ," I've given birth, to three beautiful kittens," She purred happily and her fur puffed up with joy. Then she remembered, the Great Battle, her mate, their clan. Saddened by her thoughts she couldn't help but ask ,"J-Jetstar...He's with Starclan now, Isn't he..." She turned away from Adderfang for a second, she didn't want to know the answer. ,"He will never meet his kits... I'm so... Sorry for them."
She looked back at Adderfang with sorrow filled eyes ,"There is only a few of us now... A few elders, queens, apprentices, and the other kits like Silentkit... I'm not sure what to do... I almost pitty the other Clans... I wonder what they are going through at this moment." Firefeather licked Adderfangs face once again ,"Adderfang. You did your best for our clan, and now I need you. The rest of the Clan needs your help. StarClan always has a plan, And I believe their plan was for you to help us survive."
Adderfang listened closely as she listed off who was in the camp. So, he was the only warrior, huh? Wait a minuet, where was the medicine cat? He didn't think she'd come to the battle with everyone else. "M-medicine cat?" the black and white tom could hardly speak and was still bleeding out of his tail and side although his ear had crusted over and stopped bleeding.
Even nearly dead, Adderfang knew that he wouldn't be able to sit back and heal for very long. The clan needed food and patrols. He was the only warrior left and with new kits, Firefeather would be eating constantly. "S-still herbs in...den?" he muttered, mentally kicking himself for getting this hurt that easily. Adderfang had watched the medicine cat heal warriors before and understood the basics. He could put marigold on his side and tail and cover himself in cob webs to stop the bleeding, but that was all he knew. "I'll hunt....tomarrow."

Firefeather
Firefeather nodded, "There should still be herbs in Hailskies den, I doubt he took it all with to the Island." She flicked her tail motioning towards the Medicine Cat den. She quickly looked him over to see what damage was done by the opposing cat. 'He should live... I wish he wouldn't go hunting in his condition, but what choice do we have? He is the only able cat untill Shadowkit is old enough to train, and that wont even happen for another moon or so... if it happens... Oh StarClan, help us survive.' She thought to herself. She suddenly grew sad, and angry at herself. 'I should have been there fighting with my clan!' She kicked up dust with her back paw ," Just be careful, when you go hunting... We cant afford to lose anymore warriors this moon. I need to go back to my kits Adderfang... You know where to find me if you need me." Firefeather began to make her way back to the Queen's den.
Adderfang nodded, taking the herbs she handed him and chewing them to a pulp. "I will wait until I can run, and I will be careful." The black and white tom replied, using a paw to rub the pulp on his ear and sides. It was going to be a pain to get to his now stubby tail. Curse that warrior for taking my tail. Once the pulp was everywhere he could reach it, Adderfang began grooming himself. He didn't want to be dyed pink and black for the rest of his life from the blood in his white fur. The cobwebs kept the new blood from sticking to the newly cleaned fur. Once he was sure that the bleeding would stop, Adderfang would go bathe in the Shadowclan side of the lake and get really clean.
He was glad that there were new kits, though, and looked toward the nursery to see if he could catch a glimpse of what they look like. He expected the whole litter to be fire-red and brown. He was kinda surprised when one was mostly black. Still, it made him smile and he had to go back to grooming himself. The other kits, like Silentkit and Shadowkit would be getting old enough to train soon, wouldn't they? He hoped to get one as an apprentice, but who would take over? It would have to be Firefeather, right?
Speckledpaw raced into camp after returning from an herb run, smelling blood and Adderfang's scent. She skidded to a stop and dropped the herbs at her paws, completely taken aback by the disheveled state of the warrior.
"Oh my StarClan! Adderfang, stop that and come with me to the den. If you raced back from where ever that battle was, you can make it to Kestrelwing's den." She sniffed the poultice he rubbed on himself and snorted, shaking the putrid scent of the herbs out of her nose.
That mousebrain. Puts on all the wrong herbs and hopes it will do something. She gathered up several herbs that she needed and prepared them, beginning with the chamomile to calm his nerves. She nosed two of the flowers close to Adderfang. "Eat these. It will help."
The tom was very glad to let Speckledpaw do the word and hissed violently as he pulled himself to his feet and the drying blood on his side broke open again. The state of weakness frustrated Adderfang, but he was also just glad to be alive. How many warriors had he, himself killed in that battle? Once the tom flopped down in the medicine den, he was tired and stressed out enough to sleep just like that, but he didn't want to sleep until he was properly fixed up.
"Glad you didn't go, I'd be very dead now if you had been there." Adderfang figured that he'd poison himself if there was no medicine cat, but some herbs on his side were better than none. That was cut deep, and he was missing most of his tail, which was still bleeding like no other. There were small cuts and missing tufts of fur all over his body, but those two frustrated and worried him the most. The tom chewed thoughtfully on the flowers and watched her work.
She watched happily as Adderfang chewed the flowers, grateful that her mentor taught her well. She began by focusing on the injured tom's tail and flank, brought to her attention by the blood oozing from the wounds. She first used moss soaked in water to wash out each area, making sure to clean everything thoroughly so she could apply her herbs as best as possible.
"I'm sorry if anything stings, but we need to keep the areas clean," she explained, using a dry bit of moss to dry the fur around each wound. She started with the flank, the most grevious injury. She carefully chewed a small amount of chevril and dock leaves, then applied the poultice to her long gash down Adderfang's side. Speckledpaw also nudged several dandelion leaves towards her patient. "These will help with the pain."
She waited for the stinging of the dock to kick in before applying cobwebs over the entire gash to hold the medicines in place. "Once these look like they're doing their job, I will exchange them for a new medicine so we can get you healing." She flicked his shoulder reassuringly with her tail before turning her attention to his battered tail.
Speckledpaw gathered a large quantity of goldenrod and chewed into a fine poultice, smothering Adderfang's tail in the mixture. Before any of it could drip off, she wrapped the remains of his tail in cobwebs, then added another large glob of the goldenrod to his new tail tip and wrapped it in cobwebs again. Next, she wrapped his tail in dried oak leaves carefully, holding each in place with a small bit of a cobweb before wrapping that in a layer of cobwebs. Finally, she surrounded his tail in several rush stalks to keep it from moving and secured the entire thing with two strips of cobwebs at the base and the tip of his shortened appendage.
"I gave you an excessive amount of a goldenrod poultice to help the wound heal. The leaves will add protection as well as stop any infection from setting in. The stalks will keep your tail from bending." She looked the older tom in the eyes as she spoke. "Do not move your tail. You will only prolong your injury. Understand?"
Adderfang grumbled darkly at the inability to move his tail and sighed, nodding. "Yes, Speckledpaw, I understand." The tom sighed, gingerly touching his missing ear with a paw and looking at his sides. The thought that his whole clan had been wiped out in a single day distressed the tom more than he liked to show. The medicine stung, but no more than the wounds had before, so it was easy for the older tom to get over.
Adderfang was curious, though, about how many kits there would be. He knew of three queens, one had already birthed her kits, one was very close, and the other seemed to be off a while. How many apprentices would he have to train at once? Would the clan have to do classes with one or two warriors instead of one apprentice per warrior? The black and white tom wondered how that would work and groaned at the thought of training more than two at a time. Being the only warrior was a task that Adderfang was up to, but not entirely ready for.
"Speckledpaw, How long will it be until I can hunt?" He hoped that it wouldn't be long. He was already regaining the strength to talk and think of what the clan needed, and The queens needed to eat if their kits were gonna live, same with Speckledpaw. He had nothing against the young medicine apprentice, but she probably wasn't too good at hunting due to the lack of warrior training. The whole situation worried him. Would Firefeather take leadership? Would he wind up deputy? When the thought of becoming deputy popped into his head, the tom's eyes went wide and his fur fluffed up considerably. He'd never had an apprentice, but even now he was pretty much acting like one, still! Great Starclan, he hoped that the leader would choose carefully, and that it might not be him.
